A320 Rear Horizontal Elevator Assembly Cell – AIRBUS (SPAIN)

Solution Overview

This solution consists of three installations, each with two machines facing each other, allowing access to both panels of the A320 horizontal tailplane elevator.

Project Objective

The objective of the project is to increase production and optimize the manufacturing process, reducing the production time of each elevator by approximately four hours.

Challenge

We face the challenge of maintaining the production line operating across three shifts without a machine operator.

Requirements

The machine operates in a One-Way Assembly (OWA) process, working with carbon fiber and aluminum stacks.
Due to the variability of carbon fiber, the machine must:

  • Drill and countersink with precision
  • Measure the stack thickness (to select the correct rivet length)
  • Apply sealant to the countersunk surface
  • Install the selected COMPOSI-LOK (MBF2113) blind rivet

The cycle time per hole must be under 30 seconds.
