A330 Engine Support Primary Structure Drilling Cell – AIRBUS (FRANCE)

Solution Overview

This solution combines strength and precision to perform machining, milling, and drilling on materials such as INCONEL and TITANIUM.

Project Objective

The objective of the project is to automate the machining process on the metal structure of the aircraft engine support.

Challenge

The challenge is to integrate multiple operations, such as milling, orbital drilling, front spot facing, and back spot facing, as well as verifying the hole quality and securing the structure with temporary LISI clamps.

Requirements

  • Two TRICEPT machines facing each other, sharing a tool changer capable of holding up to 200 different tools. A robotic arm manages the tool change in the storage system.
  • The work involves high forces, including drilling 50.8 mm diameter holes in titanium in a single pass.
  • The volumetric precision of the station is maintained within ±0.2 mm.
