Solution Overview

This is a unique solution where a TRICEPT machine with a special “C”-shaped head performs the installation of two-piece rivets, including the pin on one side and the nut on the opposite side.

Project Objective

The objective is to automate a drilling and riveting process, including the insertion of the HI-LITE rivet and the installation of the corresponding NSA5075 nut.

Challenge

The challenge is to join the metal floor structure using a “C”-shaped head design due to accessibility limitations over the parts.

Requirements

  • Head Design: The head must allow for automatic module exchange, such as angled drilling tools for different diameters, insertion of two types of rivets, and the corresponding nut insertion modules.
  • Cycle Time: The “hole-to-hole” cycle time must be under 20 seconds.
