A350 Section 19 Assembly Cell – AIRBUS (SPAIN)

Solution Overview

This project involves two robotic machines mounted on a linear axis, which work on the side of the A350 Section 19.

Project Objective

The primary goal is to increase production of Section 19 within an existing facility, complementing drilling tasks and quality verification of the product.

Challenge

The project challenge is to perform multiple operations with the two machines integrated into a confined layout, where accessibility to the product is limited by the supporting tooling.

Requirements

  • Robot Accessibility: Robots must access the contour of Section 19, while working within the space constraints of the supporting tooling.
  • Operation Complexity: Perform multiple operations with a machine availability of 96%.
  • Drilling and Re-drilling: Drill and re-drill on a carbon fiber-aluminum-titanium stack, with diameters ranging from 4.8 mm to 15.9 mm.
  • Hole Diameter Verification: Verify the drilled hole diameter.
